Once upon a time there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work. One day he was walking along the shore. As he looked down the beach, he saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself to think of someone who would dance to the day. So he began to walk faster to catch up. As he got closer, he saw that it was a young man and the young man wasn't dancing, but instead he was reaching down to the shore, picking up something and very gently throwing it into the ocean. As he got closer he called out,"Good morning! What are you doing?" The young man paused, looked up and replied, "Throwing starfish in the ocean." "I guess I should have asked, why are you throwing starfish in the ocean?" "The sun is up and the tide is going out. And if I don't throw them in they'll die." "But, young man, don't you realize that there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it. You can't possibly make a difference!" The young man listened politely. Then bent down, picked another starfish and threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves and said, "It made a difference for that one."

8 strange habits of very successful writers
On the first page of this website there is an introduction I wrote about the guy that gave me my first guitar. He passed away this past Monday from complications due to Chemo. I give this man credit for saving my life by offering me an avenue when I was a teen, to get out of my environment. He taught me a lot and even though I had not seen him in close to fifteen years, he still played a significant part in my life at one time. Two things he used to tell me were, "Never say you can't do something," and "If someone ask you to do something that you don't know how to do, tell them you don't know how, but you can learn." He spent his life in the music businees and worked with all of the greats. He was on the road from the age of fifteen until January of this year, which was at least 45 years. He liked hotel rooms, so I am sure there is one in heaven. You will be missed Mike. ----Kelly
I am happy to announce that my new collection of poetry, "A Day with You" poetry collection is available beginning today. It is available at createspace, Amazon, and Smashwords. The links are to the right of this blog and also in the book section of this website. I am proud of this collection. It covers subjects such as love, the working man, desire, and a little strangeness. I personally feel like this is some of my best work and I hope everyone checks it out and enjoys it as much as I did writing it. It is work directly from my heart, and thanks to everyone who has already purchased it, I am already pleased with the response, thank, thank you, thank you.---Kelly
A writer should write material from the heart, which I suppose most do. I know a few who write with the idea of selling their work. Of course a few extra dollars is nice, but a writer should right for the purpose of expressing him or herself. Thats what it is about. Self expression through writing is essential in making one successful. This is my thoughts anyway. What do you think?. I also feel a writer should write about what makes them happy, whatever they feel passionate about, whether it is a popular subject or not. It is about the expression, not about selling the books. My philosophy is , "I write books and if they sell that's a bonus." I never write with selling in mind. I write to express my feelings and my ideas, my message. Take care everyone and have a good weekend.--Kelly
