I remember back in the mid-eighties when I was a teen-eager, I worked at this pizza joint in Texas. One of my co-workers who lived in a nearby town was driving in to work for the afternoon shift day one day and on his way he picked up a gentlemen hitchhiker who's semi had broken down. My friend picked him up and I remember sitting and talking with this guy. He was old, probably thirty (LOL), at my age then, thirty was old. Anyway, he asked me what I wanted to do in my life and I responded by telling him that I wanted to go to college for a business degree. He asked what my father did for a living and I told him that my old man was in retail. The guy responded, "Is that what your dad wants you to do is go to college for a business degree?". I said ,"yes". "You don"t have to do everything your parents want you to do." It was the first time anybody ever told me that I didn't have to do what my parent's wished. My dream was to be a musician and a writer. I became that by the way, with a career in Alcohol and Drug Counseling to fall back on. It is funny when we are teen-angers, it seems sometimes we do what others, especially what parents want us to do in life. Kids should also be allowed and taught to think on their own. Have a good Wednesday.---Keith

At times, we run across interesting characters in life. I’ve known many people in my years on this earth, and they are more different than the same, or are they? Course, some of you will disagree with me I am sure. It’s hard to say what makes people different or the same. Perhaps genetics, environment, any number of variables can contribute. I have seen good and bad in my life, as I am sure others have seen good and bad in mine. To me life is a subject not unlike mathematics, history, or geography. Individuals have their own theories and equations to their personalities, and past, and everyone originates from something, just as the subjects mentioned above.
I can’t answer if you ask me my purpose in my life. Could you answer if I asked yours? The purpose in life is possibly whatever you make, or want it to be. I personally don’t care what my purpose is; I just know I have one. What happens after death? I can’t tell you. Where is all of this going? I can’t tell you that either, as I am making it up as I go. By the time you have read it, you will know, but at this exact moment as you read this sentence, neither of us do because we have not finished it yet. Should it matter if there is a higher power of some sort? Does it really matter if the bible is true or not? Let us say none of it is real, it is all just a concept. Living as though it is true is a good way to live, so why not believe it is true. Do you agree? If you live right, you may discover you have peace in your life. Of course, life throws some obstacles our way that is for sure. We think too much into life. So much so, it prevents us from living it. For example, we worry, and most things we worry about never happen. This leads me back to our purpose in life; we may never know what it is, so why try to figure it out. While we are trying to figure it out, we may just miss living. The way I see it, whatever is going to happen has already been decided, therefore, there isn’t much we can do about it. Why worry about something that’s already been decided. The only issue with that is, we don’t know the answer, yet, which causes anxiety and worry. What I am writing about is nothing new, people have thought and written about this for years. Perhaps the only thing different here is, that my writing will make you contemplate your life and other situations, which is why I write. Comments are always graciously accepted. Have a good day.---Keith Flag desecration, also known as flag abuse, is defined as any act that is carried out with the intention of damaging or destroying a flag in public. This is commonly done in an effort to make a political statement against a nation or its policies. Some nations have acts that ban flag desecration while others have laws that protect the right to destroy a flag as a part of free speech. Some of these laws distinguish between a national flag and those of other countries.
There are many methods of flag desecration. Flag burning is very common, but flags can also be spat upon, walked over, shot with guns or dragged through mud. Sometimes, flags may simply be used in unconventional manners. They may be hung upside down or sideways. Some groups have even made toilet paper and napkins that bear images of flags. These are then soiled with use and tossed aside. People may choose to desecrate a flag for many reasons. Many times, this is done in protest to a certain government polity or to distance oneself from the domestic policies of one's home nation. It may also be a protest against nationalism or the government's presence in another country. Flag desecration may also be performed in other nations as an insult to the citizens of the nation whose flag is being burned. Flag Desecration Legality Flag desecration is legal in Australia, and there have been several noted instances in the last decade. One socialist group called Resistance even markets a flag burning kit. Belgium and Canada also allow for flag burning and desecration. In 1990, the flag of Quebec was desecrated by protestors in Brockville, Ontario. Numerous people walked over the flag and the event was even televised. In many other nations, there are laws in place to protect the flag from desecration. In Denmark, for example, it is illegal to desecrate the flags and national symbols of all foreign nations. However, it is legal to burn the national flag of Denmark. This is a unique law, but protects the people of Denmark from threats that result when they burn the flags of other nations. French law made it illegal to burn or desecrate the national flag with a bill that was passed in 2010. Several people have already been fined for the crime, which is illegal even in a private setting. Germany has even harsher laws when it comes to flag desecration. Damaging the flag of Germany or that of any German state is a crime punishable by up to five years in prison. Hong Kong has similar laws and cites that flag burning it illegal because there are many other ways of protesting. Flag desecration, though considered an insult to the government, is not illegal in the United States. The flag is often burnt in the United States as a protest of government policy, both domestic and abroad. This was particularly common during the Vietnam War and the start of the War on Terror. The United States Constitution makes it illegal to outlaw the burning of any flag and protects this act as a freedom of speech. Flag desecration is seen as an insult to the government and its policies. Whether or not the practice should be legal remains a source of great debate and hinges on whether or not flag burning is protected under the call for freedom of speech. What do you think? Have a great day.---Keith |
