Though today they're associated with Christmas, decorated evergreens actually have pagan roots. Ancient Romans and Egyptians adorned their home with the trees for winter, and the practice continued throughout Europe as a ritual for the winter solstice. Finally, in the 16th century, believers in Germanic countries began making the evergreens part of their Christmas celebrations. Another Day
By Keith Kelly Another day comes and goes, one day at a time. Another day of decisions having taken place praying they were the right ones and if not hoping to learn from them. Days can be full of worries, many worries we bring on ourselves. Often people find things to worry about. If there is no chaos in their head, or nothing to worry about, people don’t feel normal. This leads to self-sabotage. When a person has low self-esteem, they think thoughts like, Things are going well, what bad thing will happen? We can’t let ourselves be wrong, so what we feel on the inside we will confirm in our actions. If we have good self-esteem, we feel like we deserve good things and will confirm that in our actions. Building self-esteem is not as difficult as one might think. It takes awareness and practice. Give yourself credit for every little accomplishment. If you helped someone, acknowledge it, if you made a good meal, acknowledge it. Give yourself props for every little thing and it will lead to bigger things. Before you know it, you will live with confidence. There’s a saying reading, Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes. This means that unless we change our thinking patterns, they will stay the same. The hardest thing is perhaps living one day at a time. More difficult is one moment at a time. Unfortunately humans are always thinking about the future or past situations. The future makes us anxious, the past depressed. We do this so much and ignore the present, thus missing life. Meditation helps with this. Try it? Here is what you do. Sit in a quiet place focusing on your breathing. When your mind drifts and thoughts pop in your head label them. If a thought of your dog pops in your head for example, say his name, then tell yourself to dismiss the thought and focus on your breathing. When you label a thought it gives realness and is easier to dismiss. With practice, this becomes automatic. You will be living life and have a thought when automatically you will hear your voice saying, “Dismiss the thought focus on my breathing.” You want your mind to drift so that you can dismiss thoughts. When you notice your mind not focusing tell yourself this, I do this twenty minutes daily and it has helped with my anxiety. It's time to look back on 2017 and see what happened at the multiplex. And for some titles it wasn't pretty.
Though 2017 found some success stories - like the early-year releases "Get Out" and "Split" from Blumhouse, the fall favorite "It," and presumably "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" when it comes out in mid-December - numerous titles were dead on arrival. For every "Beauty and the Beast" and "Wonder Woman" in 2017, there was a dud like "CHiPs" and "mother!" that quickly followed. Here are the 10 worst box-office earners of the year (compare them to our list from the halfway point) www.msn.com/en-us/movies/gallery/the-10-biggest-box-office-bombs-of-2017/ss-BBGj1cU?li=BBnb2gh USING A FAKE NAME ONLINEWhen you’re trying to protect your information online, it seems a lot smarter to create a fake name than giving away any real details about yourself. But while you might be safe from hackers, you might not be safe from the law. The Computer Fraud and Abuse Act has a stipulation that says you can’t use a computer'without authorized access,' which can include not following a site’s terms of service, according to NPR. It would depend on the site’s policy, but if you actually bother reading the fine print, you’ll probably see a line agreeing not to provide false information. Famously, one Rhode Island prison guard had to pay a $500 fine for setting up a fake Facebook page of his boss. The state has since revoked its law against 'use of fraudulent information,' though.
