In 1977 when I was nine years old my brother- in- law at the time gave me my first guitar. It was a 1975 Kay guitar. I still have it to this day. I played it for a couple of weeks and being nine years of age of course, I tossed it in the back of my closet and it lived there until I was fifteen. One boring rainy day I dug it out, began playing it, and actually became quite good. Within six months, I bought an electric guitar and I thought I was a Rock Star. I began learning chords from a chord chart that I bought from a local music store. I learned the chords and began writing songs from those chords. A few months went by and I noticed I could write nice lyrics that fit with these chords that I had practiced until my fingers blistered. Ever since then at the ripe old age of fifteen, I have been writing and playing guitar. One-thousand poems and a book later led me to the summer of 2010, the year I turned 42. My girlfriend mentioned to me one evening that I should try to publish some of my work, particularly my poetry. I thought about it and did just that. Years have passed and now I’ve been published in several magazines and journals, have had two novels published, and three more on the way, two books of poetry, and am currently working on a book of short stories.
