Twenty years ago when I started counseling, I was under the impression that all people can change. I cannot exactly say when it dawned on me that this is bullshit, but it is. Of course, a person has to want to change their addiction, behavior etc, but sometimes that isn’t even enough. Some people will never change because it is wired within their brains not to. Some people reading this will not agree, but I have spent the last twenty years seeing 90% or more never changing, actually they do change, they change for the worst. My advice to new people in the field of counseling would be, get out before it is too late, but if you must stay, get it in your head now, most don’t change, and for some it is utterly impossible. “Notice every moment.” Keith.
