Another Day
By Keith Kelly Another day comes and goes, one day at a time. Another day of decisions having taken place praying they were the right ones and if not hoping to learn from them. Days can be full of worries, many worries we bring on ourselves. Often people find things to worry about. If there is no chaos in their head, or nothing to worry about, people don’t feel normal. This leads to self-sabotage. When a person has low self-esteem, they think thoughts like, Things are going well, what bad thing will happen? We can’t let ourselves be wrong, so what we feel on the inside we will confirm in our actions. If we have good self-esteem, we feel like we deserve good things and will confirm that in our actions. Building self-esteem is not as difficult as one might think. It takes awareness and practice. Give yourself credit for every little accomplishment. If you helped someone, acknowledge it, if you made a good meal, acknowledge it. Give yourself props for every little thing and it will lead to bigger things. Before you know it, you will live with confidence. There’s a saying reading, Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes. This means that unless we change our thinking patterns, they will stay the same. The hardest thing is perhaps living one day at a time. More difficult is one moment at a time. Unfortunately humans are always thinking about the future or past situations. The future makes us anxious, the past depressed. We do this so much and ignore the present, thus missing life. Meditation helps with this. Try it? Here is what you do. Sit in a quiet place focusing on your breathing. When your mind drifts and thoughts pop in your head label them. If a thought of your dog pops in your head for example, say his name, then tell yourself to dismiss the thought and focus on your breathing. When you label a thought it gives realness and is easier to dismiss. With practice, this becomes automatic. You will be living life and have a thought when automatically you will hear your voice saying, “Dismiss the thought focus on my breathing.” You want your mind to drift so that you can dismiss thoughts. When you notice your mind not focusing tell yourself this, I do this twenty minutes daily and it has helped with my anxiety.
