The Dreams I Chase
By Keith Kelly
All my life I’ve been dreaming
of that big break.
Along the way many have said,
“Give it up.”
I sit back and think to myself
that I’m thankful I have something to chase
cause it’s no sin
to chase a dream.
When I was fifteen, I sat with my guitar
and wrote my first song
about a kid leaving his home town
chasing his dream.
Over the years
many songs and poems gone by
even books I’ve written.
These strengthen my passion and dream.
My accomplishments weaken resentments
I carry for the doubters
who tell and have told me to
give up.
We all know the saying about love.
Same goes for dreams.
Better to have one never reaching it,
than to have never had one at all.
In the deep of the night
when my faith is tested
I write and play
and play and write.
Being much older now
I admit at times wondering if
that big break
will come, but the thought is short.
At the end of every day
I am thankful
for this dream
I chase.
Soul
By Keith Kelly
Is a soul a small thing?
What is it really?
Is it as small
or as big
as we make it?
“Backwards World”
By Keith Kelly
In a backwards world
people walk on their hands
clap with their feet
listen with their eyes
and see with their ears.
They scream secrets
and hold the truth.
Laugh with tears
and cry with laughter.
When they sit, their knees bend the opposite way.
When they walk, they don’t move.
Talking is silence if no one
is listening.
Silence is talking for those
acutely aware of body language.
Death is living to a believer.
Life is death to those that don’t.
Some can walk backwards and still see, while
other’s walk forward and are blind.
It appears that acceptance of oneself
is backwards
because so few do accept themselves.
Normal is dysfunctional
and dysfunctional is normal
That is if dysfunctional can be defined
backwards.
“Blind”
By Keith Kelly
Living life in darkness isn’t so bad when that’s all one knows.
Picking up on things other’s miss, is perhaps worth living in darkness.
The sighted are distracted by visual stimulus,
overwhelming them daily.
In the darkness, everything is heard, and evaluated
for safety.
It sounds depressing, but really isn’t that bad.
Everyone knows what someone visually looks like
except for someone living in the dark.
One could also say
everyone knows auditorily what someone looks like
except for someone living with silence.
A smooth warm face, a nose slightly curved to the left is a beautiful person,
as blue eyes and a pretty smile may be to the sighted.
It just depends on perspective.
Sometimes the blind see’s more than the sighted.
Sighted one’s can live in the dark
as much as a blind person.
That ‘s what real blindness
and sadness are.
Whereas. I see more than most.
